Our History
Brachers was founded in 1895 by Henry James Bracher who moved to Maidstone when he was appointed Clerk to the Hollingbourne Guardians. In 1912 he was joined by his son, Guy, later to be killed in The Great War and Guy’s friend, Frank Miskin.
Brachers took its name from these first three Partners, Bracher, Son & Miskin. In 1988 the name was changed to Brachers and in May 2009 converted to a Limited Liability Partnership to become Brachers LLP.
For the first 75 years the Partners of Brachers were drawn solely from the Bracher, Miskin and Brown Families. By 1970 however it became necessary to take in other Partners to manage the rapidly expanding workload. The last of the family members, George Bracher retired in 1998.
The Practice is a business staple in the County town of Maidstone from where it provides a wide range of legal services to clients in Kent, across the UK and beyond. We enjoy an enviable reputation amongst clients, peers and the general public for our professionalism and the quality of our people and their work.
Henry James Bracher opened his office at 44 Earl Street, Maidstone, where he remained until 1935. Brachers then moved into Star House, and then a new building in Pudding Lane. In 1986 the decision was taken to move to our present main office, which is Somerfield House, 59 London Road, for convenience of access and to provide ample parking for clients and staff.
