It is always advisable to make your claim as soon as possible. You will have the benefit of being able to recall events more clearly when they are fresh in your mind. The sooner you make a claim, the sooner we can advise you as to whether you have a good case and the longer we will have in order to gather evidence in support of your claim.
To assist your claim, it is advisable to report your accident (e.g. to your employer, the local Council, etc). If possible you should try to ensure that the accident is entered in the accident book and that the names and addresses of any witnesses to your accident are recorded by you. If your accident occurred as a result of a defect it is also important to obtain clear photographs of the defect/hazard, showing measurements of the defect with a ruler where possible and making a note of the date on which the photographs/measurements were taken and by whom. Particularly with claims against councils it is wise to do this before you report it in case they repair and destroy the evidence!
