Cheap is not always cheerful

In a world where price is king, why on earth would you wish to use an expensive solicitor?

As you would expect, I am going to try to demonstrate why you should use a solicitor, and in fact that we are not expensive when you consider the importance of getting the right advice, and the expense of getting the wrong advice. I think there are six jolly good reasons for using specialist solicitors, and I will come to these in a minute.

A will is more complex than you might think

When a client rings up to make an appointment to discuss his or her will, often their first question is “how much will it cost?” A will is not a one-size-fits-all document. If you are going to take the trouble to make a will then make sure it is tailor-made to your particular circumstances. Just saying you have a will and assuming that is sufficient is not the answer. It has to be the right will. Such an important document may seriously affect one’s family’s future and it will be, in the long run, money well spent.

Free Will?

A survey last year found that although 30 million Britons are currently without a will, 92% know who they want to receive their assets when they die. But the recent case of Ilott v Mitson has emphasised the fact that, even when we make a will, our wishes may not be paramount, especially where provision for our children is concerned.

It can also avoid a lot of unnecessary expense and heartache for those you leave behind, at what can already be a difficult time. Yet many die without having made a will.
