Work Experience / Vacation Scheme

We offer two types of work experience both of which are unpaid placements.

  • Secretarial Work placements
  • Vacation Scheme

Secretarial Work Placements

We sponsor the Secretarial Ilex course at Mid Kent College and therefore offers two students per year a two week work placement in March/April each year. Each student will spend one week in a non-contentious team and a second week in a contentious team. Each student will be provided with training on our systems by our internal IT trainer and then allocated to the IT representative in the team in which they are being placed. The IT representative will ensure that the student is comfortable with any tasks assigned to them and that they are closely monitored.

Vacation Scheme

The vacation scheme is a tool to assist the identification of future potential trainee solicitors and is therefore aimed at students in their penultimate or final year of a law degree, final year of non-law studies, or graduates. However, we will consider applications from A2 Level law students with a keen interest in pursuing a career in law.

We aim to provide five vacation placements per year, as follows;

  • Winter Holiday (1 student for 1, 2 week period)
  • Spring Holiday (1 student for 1, 2 week period)
  • Summer Holiday (3 students for 3, 2 week periods)

Exact dates are decided once the universities have set their term dates for the appropriate year.

The closing date for applications for the scheme is 30th April (interview May)

Interviews are conducted by the Training Principal and Human Resources Manager.

Each student is placed in three different teams for a maximum of three/four days in each team during the two week period. We try to accommodate students in teams where the area of law is of interest to them, but this depends upon our business needs at the time. Each team will only take a maximum of three vacation scheme students per calendar year, and only one student at any one time. The student is allocated to the trainee supervisor within the team and given discrete tasks such as research, drafting etc.

Any candidate on work experience or on a vacation placement is required to sign a confidentiality agreement prior to commencing their placement.

We will only take individuals on work experience who fall into the above categories.

How to apply
