In-house Lawyer Debates

28 February 2008

 Announcing the 2008 Series
of In-house Lawyer Debates on Value

These events will achieve the first national debate on what value means for in-house legal teams and will cover the role of the in-house lawyer, what best practice in-house legal services look like to employing businesses, institutions and authorities, and the relationship with law firms.

The debates, held under Chatham House rules, will take place on dates in and around February, June and October with each round of meetings considering different aspects of value. The first round of debates will be held in seven regions:

5 Feb   Solent                                                  3 March Manchester

7 Feb   Bristol                                                  5 March Milton Keynes

12 Feb Reading                                            11 March Warwickshire

26 Feb Maidstone

These seven regions will then hold further debates in June and October and new regions will be added throughout the year (including Leeds and Edinburgh).

A significant feature of the project is that after each of the three rounds of debates LBConnect will compile a comprehensive, unattributable report of findings, views and recommendations based on the real experiences of in-house lawyers up and down the country. Thus creating, by the end of the series, three thematically linked reports and one of the most comprehensive and current commentaries on value of its type.

The first round of debates will discuss the role of the in-house lawyer in the context of:

  • What is the relationship between the cost of in-house legal services and the value derived from that cost? How is value measured?

  • How might in-house legal services develop/consolidate if the wider economic cycle is uncertain?

  • What is the range of activity delivered by in-house teams today and how might these roles develop in the foreseeable future?

Attendance is free and open to all in-house lawyers, whatever their role or experience, but you will need to register your interest at www.lbcwisecounsel.com/lbconnect as places at each event are limited.

Introducing the series of debates, Paul Gilbert, CEO of LBC Wise Counsel, said: “This is one of the most exciting projects we have ever undertaken, and I am convinced it will create something genuinely special. Not only will it connect local lawyers but it will also create a significant report of lasting value.”

Each debate (commencing at and concluding at ) attracts up to two hours CPD and presents a great opportunity to consider current best practice in a number of key performance areas as well as a chance to network with local in-house lawyers in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.
