New Government Department for the Environment
On Friday 3 October the government announced a new Department for Energy and Climate Change (www.decc.gov.uk) which will be aimed at providing a more joined-up approach to policies and decision-making in this important area of public concern. The Department will be headed up by Ed Miliband, former Cabinet Minister, and will integrate and expand upon the functions of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) in relation to climate change, and the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (DBERR) in relation to energy.
