• Brachers partner Alexandra Gordon has won the ‘Mentor of the Year’ category at the Inspirational Women in Law Awards 2021.

The Inspirational Women in Law Awards recognises individuals from across the legal profession who are leading the way in improving equality and diversity. The awards scheme is organised by the First 100 Years, a national campaign founded by Dana Denis-Smith, to celebrate the first 100 years of women in the legal profession in the UK and Ireland. The campaign culminated in centenary celebrations on 23 December 2019 and now focuses on the next 100 years, campaigning around key issues for women in law.

As well as the awards presentation, yesterday’s virtual ceremony included two panel discussions featuring eminent leaders in the profession, including Law Society Vice President Lubna Shuja, Caoilfhionn Gallagher QC and Maya Sikand QC from Doughty Street Chambers, and legal academic Professor Judith Bourne Ph.D.

Alexandra’s awards submission focussed on her mentoring of junior lawyers both in the Brachers’ Private Client team and in her wider professional network, including through her role as current Kent Law Society president.

Brachers Managing Partner, Joanna Worby, commented: “This is a great accolade and very well deserved as Alexandra cares so much about junior lawyers in our profession.”

Christopher Eriksson-Lee, Head of Private Client, said: “We are delighted that Alexandra has received this award. She is a fantastic asset to the team, and I am delighted that her influence has been recognised.”

This shortlisting is the latest in a series of recent successes for Brachers’ Private Client team. The firm recently triumphed in the ‘Probate Law Firm of the Year’ category at the UK Probate Research Awards 2021 and were winners of the ‘Private Client Team of the Year’ category at the British Wills and Probate Awards 2020. Alexandra was also shortlisted for the ‘Trusted Advisor of the Year’ award at the international STEP Private Client Awards 2021.

This year, the team moved up to a top Tier 1 ranking in leading legal directory The Legal 500, in the area of ‘Personal Tax, Trusts and Probate’. The team also moved up to a Band 2 ranking in the prestigious Chambers High Net Worth Guide, with Christopher Eriksson-Lee retaining his individual Band 1 ranking (the only lawyer in the region to achieve this).
