• Brachers Partner and head of the Collections and Recoveries team, Robert Thompson, has once again been recognised as one of the most influential people in the consumer and commercial credit industry by the Credit 500 Index, having also been included in the 2021 index.

The index, published annually by the UK’s leading Credit and Financial Services publication Credit Strategy, champions leaders who have made a measurable difference within the industry. This can be through influencing or setting policy, managing collections, influencing policy to support vulnerable customers or through their responsibility for sales and business growth. Inclusion in the list is based on an individual’s influence, achievements and nominations from peers in the industry. This year’s index forms part of the wider Credit 500 Hall of Fame, which contains all iterations of the Credit 500 since its inception.

Robert was recently named as a ‘Recommended Lawyer’ in the Legal 500 2022 directory in his role as head of the Collections and Recoveries team at Brachers, with the team itself receiving a top Tier 1 ranking.

Alongside his role at the firm, Robert holds a number of senior positions in high profile organisations within the credit sector. In October 2020 he was elected as Chair of the Civil Court Users Association (CCUA). He is also Chair of the Creditor Recoveries Liaison Group and a course lecturer on debt recovery with Central Law Training.

Robert said: “I’m so pleased to be included in the Credit 500 index for a second year. There are so many influential people recognised in the hall of fame and it’s a real honour to sit alongside them once again. My primary focus has always been on improving customer and client experience and influencing positive change within the sector, so I’m very proud to be recognised for my contribution to the consumer and commercial credit industry.”

Joanna Worby, Managing Partner at Brachers, said: “I am delighted that Rob has been recognised in the index again this year. The combination of his practical knowledge and commercial insight has been a key driver in Brachers’ Collection and Recovery team’s success, and is something Rob also applies to create positive influence in the broader credit industry. He is very worthy of this accolade.”

Robert has worked in the credit industry for 30 years and has been influential in Brachers being lauded for its ethical debt collections work with a Credit Excellence Award in 2020 when the firm took home the ‘legal and enforcement profession’ prize. The firm was also shortlisted for ‘Law Firm of the Year’ at the Credit Awards in 2020.
