The Government recently published guidance on the recruitment of transgender staff as a result of the Women and Equalities Committee investigations; this report has now followed.
The report calls on the Government to take action by updating legislation, providing better services and improving confidence in the criminal justice system.
It draws attention to outdated terms such as ‘gender reassignment’ and ‘transsexual’ and recommends the protected characteristic is changed to “gender identity” and that official recognition of gender should be based on ‘self’declaration’, rather than a ‘medicalised’ assessment.
It will be interesting to see what action the Government may take in this regard.
