• Brachers is delighted to announce that Mary Rimmer, a Senior Associate in the firm’s Private Client department who heads up the Elderly and Vulnerable team, has become a Dementia Champion and will be working with colleagues and others to raise understanding of the disease.

Mary has successfully completed her training to become one of 10,500 Dementia Champions nationwide, as part of an initiative set up by The Alzheimer’s Society. This comes as the condition continues to rise – with predictions that the number of people living with dementia will grow to over 1 million by 2025.

As part of her role, Mary will be running information sessions to enable others at Brachers to become dementia friends. Mary will act as an advocate for people with dementia and be a source of information and support for those around her.

Mary will be working to ensure that everyone at Brachers becomes dementia-friendly and will also be running information sessions for the public. Anyone interested in attending the sessions, which last 45 minutes, can look up dates and availability via the Dementia Friends website.

    Mary Rimmer said:

“I am delighted to become a Dementia Champion. Statistics show that less than half of people living with dementia feel a part of their community. Sadly, over a quarter of those living with dementia have given up even leaving their house. We can all make a difference by making a commitment to becoming more dementia-friendly. This is something that fits well with Brachers’ values as a firm – we want to make law accessible to all and support our communities.”

Jo Worby, Managing Partner at Brachers, said:

“We congratulate Mary on becoming a Dementia Champion. It is a truly worthwhile cause to help raise awareness of this condition and I fully support her efforts to ensure that we as a firm are as dementia-friendly as we can be.”
