U-turn on proposed increased probate fees
Bereaved families will welcome the news that the proposed rise in probate fees has been axed because there is not enough time for the proposal to go through parliament before the General Election on 8 June 2017.

It was proposed that the new court fees for obtaining a grant of probate could increase to as much as £20,000 rather than the current £215 fee. Friends and family already have a lot to deal with when a loved one dies, without the added stress of trying to find a possible £20,000 to pay for a grant of probate.
The increase was not welcomed by lawyers alike and the proposed fees have come under heavy scrutiny and debate. Lawyers may not want to get too comfortable though as it is likely that the increased fees will be looked at again after the election.
