Brachers advise on Quvium establishment in the UK

Brachers is pleased to announce its role in advising US start-up medical device company Quvium on its successful establishment of its UK base in Sandwich’s Discovery Park.

Massachusetts-based Quvium develops and manufactures a predictive analytics platform which aims to tackle pediatric asthma. The move into Discovery Park this month is the vital first step in bringing the product to sufferers in UK and Europe more-widely.

Partner in the Corporate team at Brachers, Sean Gorman, worked alongside accountancy firm Reeves and investment agency Locate in Kent, to advise Quvium on the terms of its Regional Growth Fund financial backing from the Expansion East Kent scheme which helped enable the move, as well as the establishment of UK equity investment structure.

Quvium becomes the 100th tenant in Discovery Park, where it will create over 20 new full-time jobs supporting the local community.

Sean Gorman said:

“I am proud to have been able to assist Quvium in this move, which will expedite the process of getting their product to market. We look forward to working with them as they go from strength to strength and secure the further funding necessary to broaden their focus to other chronic conditions. This is exactly the sort of business we are in Discovery Park to support – Quvium is an excellent model for overseas businesses using its location as a launchpad to expand into Europe.”

Scott Miles, Reeves Life Science Partner, said: “Quvium’s decision to relocate shows that the UK Government’s strategy for promoting tax benefits for innovation is working, has a direct influence on the UK economy and boosts jobs”.

Quvium CEO and founder Steve Schmidt commented:

“We are indebted to Brachers’ expertise for getting all the details in place allowing a smooth transition to the UK. The ease of being able to draw upon the experience of our professional teams on site at Discovery Park helped to make the move a simple one, and we look forward to continuing the collaborative approach this site is known for.”

Brachers’ Corporate team specialises in mergers and acquisitions, private equity, joint ventures, share schemes and complex corporate restructuring, with clients ranging from owner-managed businesses to multi-national corporations.
