Brachers offers fixed fee divorce ahead of Divorce Day on 6 January
South East law firm, Brachers, is offering fixed fee divorces of £850 plus VAT to accommodate the surge in divorces which is historically seen after the festive period. Dubbed ‘divorce day’ by the media, the first Monday of the new year has long seen an increase in people applying for divorces.
It is thought that this spike in divorces – which last year saw 40,500 people search the word ‘divorce’ online in January – is because of the increased time people spend together during the holidays. Coupled with this, the added financial pressure Christmas places on families has meant that holidays are a difficult time for couples whose relationships have been under pressure for some time.
Research shows that divorce is an expensive business – the average cost of divorce in the UK is £14,561, which includes legal fees and costs associated with lifestyle changes.
Brachers’ fixed fee package gives people the opportunity to obtain a divorce for £850 plus VAT, plus the court fee of £550. An initial meeting with a specialist solicitor is also charged at £150 plus VAT for one hour. If a spouse has already issued divorce proceedings, Brachers can advise options at a fixed fee of £350 plus VAT.
Brachers’ Partner and Head of Family, Mei-Ling McNab said the offering will go some way to help those who find themselves in a difficult situation after the festive period:
“Divorce in England is now at its lowest since 1973 but sadly 6 January will still mark a heightened increase in those seeking divorce due to strains placed on them during the Christmas period. In fact, we often see a spike in divorce enquiries throughout the whole of January.”
“While the government now offers an online portal for divorce applications, which may seem like a cheaper option, Brachers’ fixed fee divorce package means you get an experienced legal advisor to guide you through the process, ensuring your divorce runs smoothly. This service also takes away the hidden costs usually associated with divorce. While couples may consider using the online portal for divorce applications, without first seeking legal advice, they may encounter issues with their divorce application as well as being in danger of unknowingly putting their overall financial position at risk.”
“We can also provide clear, transparent advice on financial or children matters that need to be resolved, providing you with peace of mind. All our solicitors are members of Resolution, the national family law group committed to resolving disputes without unnecessary acrimony and where possible we will always try to help our clients to resolve their disputes by agreement.”
