• Brachers is delighted to have been recognised for its advisory work on a multimillion-pound transatlantic deal, winning ‘Deal of the Year (sub £10m)’ at the Insider South East Dealmakers Awards.

The prestigious event, hosted by Insider media, honours the best-performing professional advisory firms who work on major transactions in the region. Winners are selected by a panel of independent judges.

The Brachers team, led by Claire Williams (Partner, Corporate and Commercial) and including Kieron Cummins (Solicitor Corporate), Charlotte Berthel (Legal Assistant, Corporate), Colin Smith (Partner, Employment) and Katherine Morgan (Senior Associate, Commercial Property), received the esteemed accolade for their work on the sale of Kent-based TV transcription platform, Take 1 Script Services Ltd, to New York-based Verbit Inc.

The winning team of professional advisors from across the Atlantic who helped secure the high-profile deal included Kent-based Castle Corporate Finance.

During the transaction, Brachers acted for the sellers of Take 1 – Dom Bourne and Louise Tapia – who have continued in their roles as president and CEO, respectively. Speaking on their success, Louise said: “We are thrilled that we, together with our fantastic advisors, have received this award. It’s been a true team effort, and for this to be recognised by Insider is extremely rewarding.”

Stuart Stephen, Managing Director of Castle Corporate Finance and winner of the Dealmaker of the Year Award, also commented: “Dom and Louise thoroughly deserve this recognition and we are proud to have represented them on this life-changing transaction. Brachers were a delight to work with and absolutely committed to the transaction throughout and that massively contributed towards a successful completion. Our congratulations go to all involved.”

Brachers Claire Williams, Corporate Partner, added: “This was a very challenging transaction and the sale side teams of Brachers and Castle Corporate Finance worked in collaboration to overcome the many unique issues that arose in the course of the deal to obtain the right result for the clients, so we were delighted that this deal was recognised by the judges.”

The black-tie award ceremony took place at the Copthorne Hotel, Effingham Park on 9 February 2023.

Claire Williams was also shortlisted for Corporate Lawyer of the Year.
