Government launch a consultation on preventing misuse of the term “apprentice” and “apprenticeship”
The Government has defined the key characteristics of an approved English apprenticeship to ensure that these deliver key outcomes, real employment and high quality on and off the job training, lasting over 12 months.

The Government is concerned that there may be a temptation for the term ‘apprenticeship’ to be applied to courses that do not meet these statutory apprenticeship requirements.
This may dilute the brand, affect the reputations of training providers and give a negative experience to those attending the course.
The Government, therefore, proposes to prohibit use of the term ‘apprenticeship’ or ‘apprentice’ unless it is a statutory apprenticeship. Views are invited from prospective and current apprentices, employers and training providers. You can respond here.
