There has recently been an increase in Property Fraud, whereby fraudsters have been able to pose as the legal owners, either selling the property or securing funds against it.
Targeted properties are either empty, mortgage free or rented.
The Land Registry therefore is offering a free “Property Alert Service”, to offer protection for up to ten properties to minimise the risk of this type of fraud.
As long as the property is situated in England or Wales, once registered, any searches or applications made will prompt the Land Registry to contact you.
All you need to do is set up an account, providing up to date contact details, such as an email or postal address, which can be either in England or abroad, along with the postcode or title of the property to be monitored.
This means that you can keep an eye not only on your own properties but also those owned by any elderly relatives or relatives who live abroad but own property here.
We strongly recommend that you sign up for this service and if you have any questions then please do not hesitate to contact the Residential Team.
