• The scenario

The employee, who was the only female employee employed in a department of our client’s business, brought a claim of sex discrimination. The employee alleged that she was harassed by her colleagues who told jokes and made comments which she found offensive. She alleged her health had been damaged. As a result, the claim was listed for a lengthy hearing with substantial compensation claimed.

    Our approach

We represented the employer and successfully defended the claim. We were able to locate evidence which supported an argument that the employee had actively participated in the activities of the team and had sent images to her colleagues which were in breach of our client’s equal opportunities and IT policies.

    The outcome

As a result, the employee withdrew her claim and costs were awarded to our client.

We were able to provide advice and assistance in dealing with press enquiries and in obtaining compensation from a national newspaper.
