    Hosted by Brachers’ Family team, we welcomed Edward BoydellTara Lyons and Mark Ablett of Pump Court Chambers, who covered the issues around protecting family wealth on divorce, including:

    • Pre- and post-nuptial agreements
    • Tax: considerations including post-separation transfers and Capital Gains Tax (CGT)
    • Family companies: including holding shares in trusts, offshore entities and minority discounts
    • Legacy: new wills, lifetime gifts, creating trusts and mitigating Inheritance Tax (IHT)

    Edward Boydell, Barrister and Head of the Family Finance team, Pump Court Chambers
    Edward is highly experienced in all aspects of family law but particularly financial remedies (including civil partnerships).

    In Chambers and Partners 2020 Edward is listed as a ‘Leader of the Bar’ both for the Western Circuit and for the South-Eastern Circuit: “He has a superb ability to explain court processes and outcomes to clients in a clear and easy manner.” “He’s a standout because he’s often against silks and he’s more than able to meet the standard.”

    Edward is available to conduct Private FDRs. He is one of relatively few recorders to be ticketed to hear family finance appeals and has over 14 years’ experience of sitting in the family courts. He has been appointed as a judge of the Financial Remedies Court.

    Mark Ablett, Barrister, Pump Court Chambers
    Mark has a specialist practice in family law, appearing at all levels of the Family Court and High Court having completed pupillage in October 2017. His background as the senior paralegal at a leading family law solicitors firm lends an experience of working on big money divorce cases.

    He is frequently instructed on family finance cases with a complex element, often involving asset-protection structures, as well as private law children cases. He also handles Family Law Act injunctions and is building a practice in TOLATA claims.

    Tara Lyons, Barrister and Mediator, Pump Court Chambers
    Tara Lyons is a highly regarded barrister specialising in financial remedies cases, children law and contentious probate and inheritance disputes. She represents a range of litigants and is instructed to appear in courts and tribunals at all levels up to and including the Court of Appeal. Tara is also an experienced mediator and accepts instructions to act as a judge in private FDRs (whether remotely or in person).

    Tara is known for her sensitive and friendly representation of clients which she combines with a robust and pragmatic approach to the case. Clients say Tara has “a sharp legal mind” and describe her as being “extremely capable on her feet”.
