• Brachers is pleased to announce it has won both Deal of the Year and Runner-Up Deal of the Year at the Kent Corporate Finance Alliance (KCFA) Awards 2014. The awards recognise the best deals completed in Kent in 2013.

Brachers won Deal of the Year 2014 for its role in advising Burgess Marine on its acquisition of Testbank Ship Repair Limited. The legal team was led by Corporate partner, James Bullock. This deal has created the largest independent ship repair company in the south of England. The combined business now has facilities in Dover, Southampton, Porchester and Avonmouth and supports the UK’s largest passenger ports from these strategic locations across the South Coast. Accountancy firm, Reeves provided corporate finance, tax and accounting support on the transaction.

The £58 million sale of the Kent Pharmaceuticals Group to DCC Healthcare was also recognised at the awards night, winning KCFA Deal of the Year – Runner Up. The Brachers team was again led by James Bullock, with support from Corporate Partner Matthew Simmonds, and also involved Brachers’ property, employment, family and private client teams.

Commenting on the awards, James Bullock, Partner at Brachers, said

“We are thrilled to have won this award which celebrates leading deals carried out in the region. We remain very privileged to have been involved in these large and highly complex transactions and are confident that the upturn in business confidence means that the Kent region will continue to be busy throughout 2014.”
