• Brachers will be holding a session to discuss the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) that comes into effect in May next year, and which will make substantial changes to the way businesses must handle personal data.

The session will be part of the Kent B2B Medway event at the Historic Dockyard Chatham on Tuesday 7 November. Now in its 31st year, the B2B expo combines an engaging speaker programme with a business exhibition showcasing Medway – Kent’s leading place for innovation. Delegates will hear from the leaders of two exciting Kent business success stories: Luke Quilter of digital agency Sleeping Giant Media and Matthew Russell of Copper Rivet Distillery.

Cybersecurity for SMEs will also be on the agenda, as Aimee Payne, Cyber Crime Protect Officer in the newly-formed Kent Police Cyber Crime Unit, provides essential information on how to keep businesses safe from hackers.

Brachers’ session on the GDPR will be led by partner Catherine Daw. The GDPR will apply to most organisations and has implications for the way marketing data, employee and other personal information is handled, stored and passed on.

    Catherine Daw said:

“The GDPR brings major changes, and the risk of substantial fines. It is essential that organisations take steps now so that they are ready. We will be providing some practical tips and advice to help businesses think through what needs to be done.”

Sarah Hewitt, Solicitor will also be leading discussions to cover the legal essentials crucial for ongoing business growth including Brexit-proofing commercial agreements.

The main expo will take part in The Steam, Steel and Submarines gallery at the iconic Chatham Historic Dockyard. Other areas of the historic site will be used for the speaker programme and interactive activities including gin tasting. As well as attending talks and workshops, delegates will explore a diverse pool of exhibitors. The event is open 8.30am to 4pm and is free for delegates to attend.

    Catherine Daw added:

“The B2B expo is a great event for business leaders to come and network as well as hear about a whole range of topical issues. We’re delighted to be taking part.”
