Brachers Paralegal Michael Cressey has been shortlisted for the National Paralegal Awards. Michael who has worked in the legal profession for 10 years, was nominated in the category ‘Paralegal of the Year – South’.
Brachers Managing Partner Joanna Worby said the nomination highlights the invaluable work that paralegals do in the legal profession.
“While their work is often not as highly publicised, paralegals are important members of the legal arena and play key roles in the legal process. In recent years, the work that paralegals undertake is often indistinguishable from that carried out by solicitors, which is why we are able to keep costs reasonable for low risk legal work.”
“Michael’s nomination shows the hard work and determination he puts into all his work and I wish him the best of luck at the awards.”
“I have worked my way up through the ranks of law. Starting in legal admin at a City firm, before moving to Brachers. Here, I was able to explore the law in more depth which led me to study and gain various qualifications, including a Court of Protection Specialist Practitioner Status. I am now at a level where I can offer advice on highly complex matters to my own clients.”
“This nomination is proof that hard work does pay off and I am delighted to be shortlisted for this national award.”
A paralegal is a person qualified through education and training to perform legal work that requires knowledge of the law and procedures. Paralegals usually work for solicitors within the legal profession or in a legal environment within commerce, industry or the public sector.
Brachers currently has 10 paralegals in the firm who have all worked their way up from legal administration and secretarial positions. Paralegals, licensed conveyancing executives, and legal and trainee legal executives make up 24.65% of all Brachers fee earning staff.
The winner of the National Paralegal Awards will be announced at an event at the Grand Connaught Rooms, London on 27 March 2020.
