• Brachers Partner and head of the firm’s Collections and Recoveries team, Robert Thompson, has been recognised as one of the most influential people in the consumer and commercial credit industry by the Credit 500 index.

The index, published annually by the UK’s leading Credit and Financial Services publication ‘Credit Strategy’, champions leaders who have made a measurable difference within the industry. This can be through influencing or setting policy, managing collections, influencing policy to support vulnerable customers or through their responsibility for sales and business growth. Inclusion in the list is based on an individual’s influence, achievements and nominations from peers in the industry.

This year’s index forms part of the wider Credit 500 Hall of Fame, which contains all iterations of the Credit 500 since its inception.

As well as heading up the Collections and Recoveries team at Brachers, Robert holds a number of senior positions in high profile organisations within the credit sector. In October 2020 he was elected as Chair of the Civil Court Users Association (CCUA). He is also Chair of the Creditor Recoveries Liaison Group and a course lecturer on debt recovery with Central Law Training.

Robert said: “I’m so pleased to have been recognised in the Credit 500 index. My primary focus has always been on improving customer and client experience and influencing positive change within the sector. To be recognised for my contribution to the consumer and commercial credit industry and to sit in the hall of fame alongside so many influential people is a real honour.”

Joanna Worby, Managing Partner at Brachers, said: “I am delighted that Robert has received this prestigious accolade. His practical knowledge and commercial insight has been a key driver in the success of our Collection and Recoveries team and I am so pleased this his positive influence within Brachers and in the broader credit industry has been recognised.”

Robert has worked in the credit industry for 30 years and has been influential in Brachers being lauded for its ethical debt collections work with a Credit Excellence Award in 2020 when the firm took home the ‘legal and enforcement profession’ prize. The firm has also been shortlisted for Law Firm of the Year for the past two years at the Credit Awards and the team was also shortlisted in the Managing Partners’ Forum Awards 2020 in the ‘outstanding thought leadership’ category.
